thyssenkrupp Delivers SASA’s New Polyester Plant

thyssenkrupp Industrial Solutions recently successfully commissioned a new polyester plant for the production of staple fibers for SASA in Adana, Turkey. The new plant is one of the largest single line-production facilities for PET (polyethylene terephthalate) for textile applications. It is designed to produce up to 380,000 metric tons of PET per year (1,050 tons per day).

Werner Steinauer, CEO of thyssenkrupp’s subsidiary Uhde Inventa-Fischer: “The commissioning of this highly energy-efficient plant marks another milestone in our successful relationship with SASA. Right from the start, we designed this project while having the complete value chain in mind. The result is an integrated plant concept that ensures maximum efficiency and low energy consumption.”

thyssenkrupp delivers SASA’s new polyester plant: 1,200 tons of production capacity per day

The new plant uses Uhde Inventa-Fischer’s proven, energy-efficient 2R polyester technology, which comprises the patented ESPREE® and DISCAGE® reactors. The process is applied for capacities up to 1,200 tons per day. A characteristic future of the plant is that the polymer melt is conveyed directly from the polycondensation plant to several downstream lines. thyssenkrupp’s scope of supply included basic and detail engineering, the delivery of all necessary components as well as services for erection and commissioning.

Dr. M. Kemal Öz, Vice General Manager Operations and Investments at SASA: “We are very happy to have continuous production at our new world-scale PET plant in Adana which delivers excellent performance and product quality. It was seamlessly integrated into our existing facilities. This was a key demand which thyssenkrupp’s engineers fulfilled to our complete satisfaction.”

thyssenkrupp Industrial Solutions is a leading partner for the engineering, construction and service of industrial plants and systems. Based on more than 200 years of experience they supply tailored, turnkey plants and components for customers in different industries with their 16,000 employees.

Erdemoğlu Holding took over SASA in 2015, which was established in 1966; and focused on investments aimed at increasing the firm’s production capacity and market power. SASA had also started the petrochemical investment of 11.8 billion USD in recent months; which is expected to be completed by 2031.
