Turkish textile sector‘s export figures for January 2025 have been announced. In the report published by the Istanbul Textile and Raw Materials Exporters’ Association (ITHIB), Egypt and Pakistan stood out with high increase figures.
Exports of Turkish textiles and raw materials increased by 5% compared to January of the previous year and totalled 986 million dollars. Apparel and garment exports, on the other hand, started the year with exports of 1.2 billion dollars with a 1% decrease. While the general export figures were realised as 21.2 billion dollars with an increase of 6% compared to January 2024, the share of textile and raw materials exports in general exports was 5%. It is stated that this share reached 10.5% with ready-to-wear and apparel exports.
Turkish textile exports to Pakistan increased by 94 percent in January
On the basis of value, the most exported country groups in January 2024 were the European Union, Africa and Asia, respectively. Looking at the export figures on the basis of quantity, the EU countries maintained the first place, while the second place was taken by Asia and the third place was taken by Africa.
In January 2025, the top 3 countries with the highest exports on a value basis compared to the same month of the previous year were Italy with an increase of 5.5%, Germany with an increase of 7% and the USA with an increase of 3.4%. The significant increase in exports to Egypt continued with 73.5%, and Pakistan’s 94% increase was noticeable. Exports to the UK decreased by 4 %.
On a quantity basis, the top 5 countries with the highest exports were Italy, Pakistan, China, Egypt and Germany, respectively. Pakistan ranked first in this list with an increase of 108%, followed by China with an increase of 102%. Exports to Iran and the UK decreased by 8.6% and 3.4%, respectively.
The biggest increase in yarn exports was recorded in Pakistan with 210 percent
In the first month of the year, yarn and technical textiles with an increase of 8% in each and woven fabrics with an increase of 4% stood out among the most exported product groups in the Turkish textile sector compared to the same period of the previous year. Home textiles ranked 4th with an increase of 3.5%, followed by knitted fabrics with a 6% decrease.
In January, a total of 203 million dollars worth of yarn was exported, while Egypt, Italy and Portugal were among the countries with the highest yarn exports. The biggest increase was seen in Pakistan with 210%. In 193 million dollars worth of technical textile exports, Germany, USA and Italy were the leading countries. Morocco was the country with the highest technical textile exports with an increase of 50%. In 190 million dollars worth of woven fabric exports, Spain, Italy and Morocco were in the top three. The biggest increase in woven fabric exports was recorded in Egypt with 98%.
