The winners of the 8th Turkey Home Textile Design Awards, organized for creating new opportunities to upcoming talents, are announced. 205 applications were evaluated in the competition, Ezgi Vural won the first prize in product design category, Fatma Korkmaz won the second prize and Ezgi Çavuşoğlu was awarded the third prize.
Organized with the aim of revealing the original designs that can create trend and fashion in the international markets by incentivising young designers, the first 3 of the winners in the UTİB Home Textile Design Awards has been rewarded. The 8th edition of the award is organized by Uludağ Textile Exporters’ Association in collaboration with the Ministry of Commerce and Turkey Exporters’ Assembly (TİM), and was held with the ‘Migration’ theme for the product design category.
With important names from textile and design industry; the jury evaluated a total of 205 applications; and Ezgi Vural was awarded the first prize in product design category with her project “Re-Turn”; Fatma Korkmaz was the runner up with her project “Going Back”; while Ezgi Çavuşoğlu was awarded with third place with her project “Multiverse”.
10 thousand TL, 7 thousand 500 TL, and 5 thousand TL monetary prize went to the winners respectively; while opportunities such as participation in the Heimtextil Frankfurt 2019 Fair; as well as in the RedDot Competition, Design Registration Right, Pattern Design Training; in order to contribute to their professional experiences and careers will also be provided. In addition, the finalists will have the opportunity to study abroad; if it is approved by the Ministry of Trade.
The industry gains new talent with Home Textile Design Awards
UTİB Board Member and 8th Home Textile Design Awards Committee Chairman Aslı Türkün Karaçor pointed out that a total of 1 thousand 907 applications were made to the competition held since 2011 and 126 people were awarded during this period. Karaçor said; “The biggest prize for us was that many of the competitors started their business lives as designers. In this context; I would like to announce here that we will continue to organize the ‘Turkey Home Textile Design Awards’; which creates the possibility of trend setting designs in home and interior textile; further opens up new opportunities for new talent and most importantly; provide awareness in all industry related parties once more next year”.
Saying that Turkey exports textile to a total of 196 countries and regions in 2017; Karaçor also underlined that the Turkish textile industry is no longer only diversify the market but diversifies the product as well. Karaçor stated that the studies to improve the R & D design and innovation culture have contributed to this positive development. Karaçor noted that the annual exports of Turkish interior textile was 2.8 billion dollars; and that the companies made serious investments especially in design departments; and they marketed the products they designed under different concepts.
