Ahmet Öksüz said that the Turkish textile industry increased its exports by 7.3% in the last 12 months as of August, and broke the record of the last 4 years with an income of 10.6 billion dollars.

Ahmet Öksüz, President of Istanbul Textile and Raw Materials Exporters Association (İTHİB), evaluated the export performance of the industry for the last 12 months with a press conference held on August 7th. Öksüz said that the industry has broken the record of last 4 years with 10.6 billion dollars export in the last 12 months. “Our industry has achieved 10.6 billion dollars in exports to more than 200 countries in the last 12 months and achieved an increase of 7.3% compared to the previous period,” and continued saying;

“I believe that if the export continues to increase in this level until the end of 2018, we will reach the highest export record of the Republic history in the textile and raw materials industry. This year will be a year for all our sub-sectors to break records. It’s been a year where we caught up with significant increases in all aspects of our industry, from capacity utilization rates to value per kilogram of exports. The unit price of exports for the last 12 months that we have realized is 4.7 dollars.”

“This is more than three times of the export unit price of our country. We are the 6th sector that makes the most exports in our country; and our share of our country’s overall exports is close to 7 percent. In both areas we have to export high value added products in order to increase this share; and we have to increase our share in newly opened markets. As the Turkish textile sector, we have the added value and the power of being able to give direction to the world fashion.”

Ahmet Öksüz: Most exports are to fashion giants

Ahmet Öksüz underscored what we have done most of the export to the countries that are leading fashion. Öksüz; “In the first 7 months of 2018, our industry exported 545 million dollars to Italy with more than 5% increase; 509 million dollars to Germany with more than 7% increase; and 343 million dollars to the USA with more than 5% increase. Half of our exports go to the European Union. Exports to these countries, which dominate the world textile market; are a concrete indicator of how strong Turkish textile industry is.”

Voicing that ‘100-Day Action Plan’ announced by the President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan will accelerate the exports; Öksüz noted that export-oriented growth thrilled textile manufacturers. Öksüz continued his words as follows; “The announced 100-day action plan includes point-blank solutions; so that we can reach the growth model of production and make structural reforms more urgently. Increasing our exports to markets such as China, Mexico, Russia and India was one of our priorities; as textile and raw materials industry. Our most important anticipation for the Presidential Government System; the removal of bureaucratic obstacles and the rapid resolution of problems. The announced program does not only deal with solving existing problems, but can carry our economy farther ahead aswell. We fully believe that the action program will contribute greatly to the exports of our country.”
