US presidential election results bring hope to Turkish exporters

TopicalUS presidential election results bring hope to Turkish exporters

The US election results, which Türkiye and the entire world are following closely, pleased exporters. In the US presidential elections held on November 5, Republican Party candidate Donald Trump was elected for a second time and became the 47th president of the US, while the Republicans took the majority in the Senate and House of Representatives. Representatives of the business and finance world who attended the “Türkiye Export Mobilization Program” event hosted by Turkuvaz Media Group stated that they were hopeful about the US election results and announced that they saw the issue of compliance with the Green Deal as the most important agenda item for the coming year. New year expectations were discussed in the “Export 2025 Expectations” panel held with the participation of Turkish Exporters Assembly (TİM) Deputy Chairman and Istanbul Ferrous and Non-Ferrous Metals Exporters’ Association (IDDMIB) Chairman Çetin Tecdelioğlu, Uludağ Automotive Industry Exporters’ Association Chairman Baran Çelik, and Istanbul Textile and Raw Materials Exporters Association (İTHİB) Chairman Ahmet Öksüz.

“The US election results are promising for increasing our market share”

Ahmet Öksüz evaluated the US election results as promising for increasing their market share: “We increase our market share in America every year. We increased our market share in the textile sector from 1.9 to 2.8 this year. This is quite promising. We want to increase it even more. I think this will start again in this new period,” he said. Öksüz added that they already have a market of around fifty percent in Europe, saying; “We need to protect it. But we also need to develop new markets on top of that.”

He noted that the downward trend in interest rates would ease the markets and underlined that the labour problem was not only a textile problem but a general problem in Türkiye. He stated that people preferred the service sector or did not work at all: “We need to develop policies on this issue. Because our business is based on people,” he said.

“We are getting closer to a period where we will be more competitive”

Çetin Tecdelioğlu noted that the decreasing inflation and interest rate cuts have started to increase future expectations: “We are approaching a time where we can be more competitive in the following period. Because we, as exporters, had statements about losing our competitive power and being defeated by inflation. The exchange rate policy and high interest rates were seriously pressuring us. Now we hope that this period is over, is nearing its end, and that we, as exporters, will be able to breathe easier with new monetary policies and studies in 2025. The reduction of financial costs and the decline in inflation means that our competitive power will also increase.” Referring to the elections held in the USA, he added that they expect to accelerate their trade in the American geography.
