Şiteks, Şişmanlar Tekstil, located in Tekirdağ, produces felt from textile waste and fabric scraps generated during production in factories and exports them to 60 countries. Employing 200 people and established on an area of 170 thousand square meters, 50 thousand square meters of which is closed in Saray district, the company collects textile parts and fabric scraps that emerge during production in workshops and factories. The company transforms these parts and scraps into industrial felt after various processes in its own factory.
Making a statement to AA correspondent, one of the managers of Şiteks Halil Serdar Evirgen stated that the company was established in 1980 in Istanbul and continued its production activities in Tekirdağ after 2010. Indicating that the main item in Şiteks’ production is felt used in the automotive, white goods, furniture and construction sectors, Evirgen said: “The annual production capacity of our company is around 50 thousand tons. We export half of the products we produce to European countries such as Germany and France, as well as to 60 countries, including America and Middle East countries.”
Textile wastes are regained to the economy
Halil Serdar Evirgen pointed out that the biggest feature distinguishing their company from other companies is using a high amount of recycled raw materials in production. Emphasizing that the company transforms textile wastes and brings them into the economy, Evirgen remarked: “We transform textile wastes into raw materials to be used in felt production through various processes. By transforming some of the textile wastes we use and buying some of them as recycled, we give these wastes a chance for a new life cycle. In this way, we prevent the damage that tons of waste will cause to the environment, reset the cost to dispose of these wastes and obtain value-added products from these wastes.”
Evirgen, mentioning that they contribute to both the environment along with the country’s economy, said that they aim to increase their production volume as well as their short-term goal is to increase their production capacity to over 60 thousand tons per year by employing more people. He also explained that they want to give more waste a chance for a new life cycle by saying: “As on the first day, we will keep contributing to our country both ecologically and economically with our eco-friendly and value-added products. We will continue to produce recycled felt for the world to give a livable world to the next generations.”
