According to the ‘October 2021 Export Performance Report’ prepared by the Istanbul Textile and Raw Materials Exporters’ Association (ITHIB), Turkey’s textile export figures reached 1.2 billion dollars by increasing 14.1% in October 2021 and decreased by 3.2% compared to September 2021. Turkey’s general exports increased by 20.2% and reached a value of 20.8 billion dollars in October 2021, while exports of the textile and raw materials sector had a share of 5.6% in Turkey’s general exports in the same period. Exports of industrial products increased by 18.8% and reached a value of approximately 15.8 billion dollars in this period.
While the total textile and raw materials exports in the first 10 months of the year reached a value of 10.6 billion dollars, the textile and raw materials were exported most to EU (27) countries in this period. Exports to these countries reached a value of 4.9 billion dollars with an increase of 35.6% compared to the January-October period of 2020. In the January-October period of 2021, the second group of countries Turkey exported the most textiles and raw materials to the Former Eastern Bloc Countries and exports to this region increased by 33.8% in the January-October period and amounted to 1.2 billion dollars.
Italy was the most important export market in the January-October period
When the top ten countries that stand out in Turkey’s textile and raw materials exports in the January-October period of 2021 are evaluated, Italy stands out among the most important export markets. In the January-October period of 2021, exports of textiles and raw materials to Italy increased by 51.8% and amounted to 916 million dollars. Germany took second place with an increase of 14.8% and exports of 843 million dollars, while the third important export market was the USA with a share of 6.6%. Exports to the USA increased by 38.3% in the January-October period and reached 690 million dollars. After Italy, Germany and the USA; England, Spain, Bulgaria, Belarus, the Netherlands, Egypt and France took place among the 10 countries with the highest exports of textiles and raw materials.
In the January-October period of 2021, the countries with the highest increase in exports among the top 10 countries to which Turkey exports the most textiles and raw materials were Belarus with 87.4%, Egypt with 64.2% and Spain with 54.8% increases. In this period, there was an increase in all of the top 10 countries to which Turkey exports the most textiles and raw materials.
Textile exports to China increased by 188.9% in the January-October period
In the January-October period of 2021, the exports of the Turkish textile and raw materials sector increased by 28.5% compared to the same period of the previous year and amounted to 2.4 million tons. In the January-October period of 2021, the most important export market in terms of quantity was Italy with a share of 8.2%. Total textile and raw materials exports to Italy increased by 36.4% in the January-October period and reached a value of 196 thousand tons.
Considering the top 10 countries to which Turkey exports the most textiles and raw materials, exports on the basis of quantity increased in all countries. When the exports of textiles and raw materials are analyzed on the basis of quantity in the January-October 2021 period, the country with the highest increase in exports among the top ten countries was China, the 8th largest export market of the sector. Exports of textiles and raw materials to China increased by 188.9% and amounted to 78 thousand tons in this period. In the same period, exports to EU countries on a quantity basis increased by 27.3% and reached 999 thousand tons.
Yarn exports ranked first with an increase of 37.4%
When the exports of the Turkish textile and raw materials sector in the January-October period of 2021 are analyzed by product groups, the most important product group was the yarn with an increase of 78%. Yarn exports increased by 37.4% in October. Technical textiles, the second most exported product group, decreased by 12.3% to a value of 1.9 billion dollars in the same period. In October, technical textile exports decreased by 22.9% and amounted to 176 million dollars. The export of woven fabric, the third most important product group in Turkey’s textile and raw materials exports, reached a value of 1.9 billion dollars with an increase of 24.1% in the January-October 2021 period. The exports of the woven fabric sector in October, on the other hand, increased by 11.6% and amounted to 228 million dollars.
According to the capacity utilization report announced by the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey, the average capacity usage rate of the manufacturing industry for the last 12 months was 76.2%. The capacity utilization rate, which was 80.9 in the production of textile products in October 2021, increased by 1.4% compared to September 2021, and decreased by 5% compared to October 2020.
