IITAS 2017 aiming to bring together the academicians with textile industry has been successfully completed. 3 day symposium had a very lively atmosphere due to visitors both domestic and from abroad.
14th International İzmir Textile and Apparel Symposium took place between 25 – 28 Octobers in İzmir, Çeşme. IITAS 2017 is organized by Ege University Engineering Faculty Textile Engineering Department once every three years. The event has accepted visitors simultaneously with Medical Textiles Congress (EGEMEDITEX 2017) which; is organized for the third time this year.
Symposium Organization Board Chairman Prof. Dr. Perrin Akçakoca Kumbasar declared satisfaction for the attention showed by the attendance of both textile and apparel industry representatives. Stating IITAS’ forward development through each event Kumbasar also highlighted; the importance of presentations made by experts in their fields and companies for the development of the industry as a whole.
Kumsabar said; “IITAS and EGEMEDITEX will bring together international specialists from textile industry, research institutes and universities where recent innovations and sector-specific issues are discussed together with the exchange of information”.

IITAS 2017 which has transformed into an information transaction between the academy and the industry included subjects such as; textile fibres and spinning technologies, weaving, knitting and non-woven technologies, textile finishing-dyeing and printing, apparel manufacturing, nanotechnology and nano fibers; new developments in processing and treatments, textile machinery, textile chemistry, technical textiles, ecology and environment, comfort and wellbeing; textile testing, modelling and simulation, e-activities in textiles, supply chain management, textile design and fashion, textile education, textile economy and management.
Prof. Dr. Işık Tarakçıoğlu addressed the development of the industry in his speech on the first day of the symposium. Tarakçıoğlu underlined the necessity of transition into value added production for the industry in his speech with the headline ‘Where will the textile industry produce in the future?’. Siemens Turkey Vice General Manager Ali Rıza Ersoy talked about the Industry 4.0 movement and; the necessity for Turkey to jump on board in his speech.
