The important names of textile sector has come together in Gaziantep. Abdülkadir Konukoğlu underlined the significance of employment the sector creates for the country and the economy once again.

TOBB Turkey Textile Industry Council Expanded Meeting took place in Gaziantep with the leadership of Council President Abdülkadir Konukoğlu, with the attendance of non-governmental organizations (NGO) and the senior representatives of the sector. The precautions need to be taken as the sector were discussed at the meeting by focusing on the current problems of the sector and solution advices.

Export and employment; locomotive of the sector

The President of Council Konukoğlu stated that all NGOs’ being in agreement is important in terms of textile’s development for the better and the sector’s future which is the locomotive of manufacture, export and employment. Pointing out the fact that Turkish textile became ‘unrivalled’ with its background, fabric, design and labour also the importance of the sector is indisputable, Konukoğlu said thusly;

“Textile is the locomotive of manufacture, export and employment in Turkey. It’s virtually an employment island with subsidiary industry. Labour will mainly protect its importance in our country as the dominant sector even though it is not the same because of the developments in technology.Which sector can replace this one especially in terms of employment? We should recognize the value of the sector. Don’t pay attention to those who say that textile is over; Turkey taking the lead in textile, will earn from this sector for many more years. Textile is needed for everbody. We are wrapped in textile as we are born also wrapped in textile and bury as we die. Textile will keep its significance as the world exists. ”

Aside from TOBB Textile Industry Council; Istanbul Textile and Raw Materials Exporters’ Union(ITHIB), Mediterranean Textile and Raw Materials Exporters’ Union(AKTHIB); Southeastern Anatolia Textile and Raw Materials Exporters’ Union(GATHİB) as well as Cotton Textile Industrialists’ Union(PTSB) Board Chairmen and Members attended to the meeting.
