Aytim Tekstil, one of the important players of the Turkish textile industry, invests 150 million liras in Erzurum for mask production. The plan is to produce 18 million 720 thousand pieces of N95 type medical masks and 300 million pieces of 3-layer surgical masks per month in the mask factory, which will start in May.
In her statement on the subject, Aytim Tekstil Chairman of the Board Sevda Aydın said that they will put the masks that they will produce completely with local and national consciousness into the service of the Ministry of Health in a short time. Aydın stated that in the first phase of the plan, 30 machines will be activated and production will start from May. Aydın continued her words as follows;
“In the second stage, we aim to increase the production by increasing the number of our machines to 90. In addition to the mask production machine, we are working to establish an integrated facility to produce Meltblown Nonwoven fabric, capable of filtering between 95 percent and 98 percent used in mask production.
We will be able to meet a significant part of Turkey’s medicinal mask need with the integrated facility; which is planned to be operational with machines to be imported in order to produce the said fabric. We aim to employ approximately 450 people in the region with the factory to be established”.
Meltblown nonwovens will be produced in the integrated facility
Sevda Aydın pointed out that covid-19-like pandemics may be seen in the future; and therefore underlined the importance of mask production in our country. Aydın said; “We think that the production of Meltblown Nonwoven fabric; which serves as a filter, in our country as well as our own mask production, should be our top priority”.
Aydın stated that they decided to make this investment; which also includes fabric production, and to establish a LEED certified medical textile investment company. Aydın finished her words as follows; “As a national defence strategy, these machines and the system must be ready. With this project, Turkey will have the opportunity to deploy ready for use medical masks; to either our country and to the world from Anatolia in a pandemic situation”.
